Day 185: Saturday 31 October

October 31, 2009

A very late blog update today. This is because I didn’t get out of my pyjamas until 3pm.

That karaoke sure can take it out of you. As you have no doubt noticed I am also a little hoarse today courtesy of karaoke.

For the record I think one of my favourite OMG moments last night was Trix’s rendition of Abba’s “Does your mother know” with a very punky chorus added by moi and my bro. Another overwhelmingly emotional highlight was a spine tingling duet of ‘Summer Lovin’ from MrPN and MsJS, and then there was the all hands on deck sing-along version of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Don’t Stop’.

Off to work soon, although you wouldn’t know it from my down played denim do.

Looking a little black under the eyes, t-shirt to match

Top: Going for a classic double denim look today with the casual over-the-shoulder Levi’s jacket

Bottom: The jacket combines seamlessly with vintage Levi’s flares, not visible from this extreme angle

Accessory: Hand crafted denim bag, gifted a few years ago from the White-Ramsay fashion label of LA

Now on to a little whinge.

As I was catching the train into the city last night I happened to pick up Friday’s MX. Reading reading reading and I came across this little slice of vox pop…

Everyone's entitled to their opinions, except when it comes to dissing denim

Well! Mr Steffan (with a double F!!! WTF!!). If you’d seen how incredible I looked last night in my “leggings that look like jeans with the fake stitching” I am certain you would have an about face in your misconceived anti-denim prejudice. Don’t knock fake denim leggings ’till you’ve tried ’em. That’s all I’ll say Mr Double eFFan.

Ruffles + pouches + tranny heels = sexytacular

Here I am all joozed up to celebrate half way through the Year of Denim. Although it seems it doesn’t hold so much interest for other people as it’s only a select group joining me tonight. I wonder if the double denim scared everyone away?

Top: Moschino super tight super ruffled denim shirt

Bottom 1: Where would we be without Supre? Always delivering when it comes to high end street fashion signified in this bubble pouch skirt thing

Bottom 2: The denim leggings.  had to wear them. my bikini line is longer than that skirt!

Accessory: Current most fav shoes, tranny-esque no-name plastic fantastic heels. I hope  don’t ‘break a leg’ tonight

I love karaoke. Until a real singer comes along, like  Miss Jane S, then I am simply ashamed at my poor musical ability. More bad singers next time, please, or I’ll ban it.

Bonus picture special…

People young and old embraced double denim to celebrate the half way point of the Year of Denim

I have had a special request for a full frontal of my Half Way Thru the Year of Denim  outfit.

Here it is…

Denim office wear for the half way point

Half way point. What a milestone! I can barely believe it myself.

Over the last few days I have been doing a denim inventory. Going through all my bits and pieces, wardrobe, miscellanea, deciding which is my favourite in each category, counting, documenting, wasting time. Check it all out here… Numbers, pictures, most favourite items. And that’s only at the half way point! Fingers crossed I can double the denim by the time April 30 2010 rolls around.

To honour the half way mark today I am wearing clothes and accessories that have attained Most Favourite status.

Check back late this afternoon to see the spectacular and sexy ensemble I will be donning to celebrate the half way point of the Year of Denim. If you care to join me I will be hitting Echo Point Karaoke slum from 9pm tonight, down stairs at 262 Pitt Street. Just remember to wear double denim.

Look for me on Sydney’s mean streets. I’ll be looking hot in quintuple denim. Yep, denim five ways.

You say double denim, I say quintuple!

You say double denim, I say quintuple!

Top 1: Dragstar cool as, so tight I’m getting armpit chafe, mid blue denim vest, a favourite right ow

Top 2: An oldie but a goodie, very vintage fake denim + bananas cowboy shirt, also my fav’ shirt right now

Bottom: Dragstar denim flares: high waist, high fashion, and also allowing the outfit to have that truly double denim touch, as well almost fulfilling my aspiration to own a denim suit

Accessory 1: Denim gym boots, wll concealed by the flares

Accessory 2: Did I say Chanel? I meant DENIM CHANEL handbag

Check back late this afternoon for my incredible karaoke denim wear. All I can say is BUSTY!!!

Day 183: Thursday 29 October

October 29, 2009

I’m stunned this morning. I had to get up at 6am! To go to work!

Having had the past week off with a combination of illness and an excellent work roster it would be possible to think I am ready for action. Hmmm. I’m ready alright. For more sleep.

But I think I have managed to convey a certain “You go Girl” ‘tude this morning. I think. I hope. I pray. I guess.

183_October_29a

Dissed for wearing black 'n blue denim, today it's blue on blue

Top: Blockout stretch denim jacket

Bottom: Cheap & cheerful Jay Jays jeans

Accessory: Mavi denim shoulder bag for the girl on the go

And another thing. If you look closely you might have noticed that I have had a haircut, however it’s not the haircut I asked for. I wanted length at the back, side burns and a good wack of fringe. None of which I got.

I understand that when you go to a hairdresser they cut hair so you always leave with less than what you arrived with. But to get a completely different look to the tone you asked for? Department of Fair Trading? Judge Judy? The Fashion Police? What redress does a girl have?

Day 182: Wednesday 28 October

October 28, 2009

Ooooh.

Can you feel it? The excitement is building as we gallop towards the Year of Denim’s half way mark on Friday.

Join me in celebrating this incredible landmark of human endeavour.
Come to Echo Point Karaoke dive in the basement of 262 Pitt Street Sydney, just around the corner from Park St.
I’ll be there from 9pm -12, possibly alone, singing my husky heart out.

And in other news, today the sun is shining.

Year of Denim + sunshine = funshine

Green Lady and me admiring the sunshiney day

Top: Saba denim shirt. I wish my boobs weren’t so big then it wouldn’t flare out so strangely

Bottom: Cos they got wet before I documented me wearing them I thought I could ride the Amcos again. So soft, so velevety, so airy around the crutch because the zipper heads south at any opportunity

Accessory: Denim gym boots

Day 181: Tuesday 27 October

October 27, 2009

I have denim plans today. More so then usual. Proactive creative denim plans.

I’m going over to Mum’s to make a denim jacket, maybe even a suit.

Mum can sew. I can’t. Mum understands a sewing pattern. I can’t. Mum’s got patience. I don’t. Mum’s got loads of patterns. I have three.

Year of Denim gets creative

Grey days are good days for sewing... I imagine

Top: I didn’t think I’d get another chance to wear this lovely donated South Seas Bubble C0. denim bomber jacket

Bottom: They are new (to me), they are black, they are Gap jeans. Too long of course

Accessory: Denim no name shoulder bag/ carry-all

Day 180: Monday 26 October 2009

October 26, 2009

There’s some serious weather around.

I think it might have killed this bird (a finch??) that Fifi found down the road and brought back to the House of Denim. It was alive when it got here last night, but this is what it looked like this morning…

It looked so sweet when it was alive, awfully dead now

It looked so sweet when it was alive, awfully dead now

I am still officially sick at home, so I am dressed to match that state. Shleppy. Although I am quite pleased it’s cold enough for me to strap on a beanie.

Nothing to do but prepare my tax. V boring

I contemplate the fragility of life and taxes

Top: Fletcher Jeans jacket. Somewhere I have the jeans to match that would fit like a dream if I was size 22

Bottom: Love your denim lounging jeans

Accessory: A gift from Tip Topp, a denim mobile phone ‘pouch’. I am also using it as a moneybag + key carrier. Want to see it up close?

'Animob' carry-all, as long as it's only tiny

Day 179: Sunday 25 October

October 25, 2009

I really thought I’d be taking it easy today.

I planned on doing the shopping, mostly for those damn pets, coming home, lounging around, with the strong possibility of an afternoon nap.

All of that is still possible. But in the mean time I DID go and do the shopping, without an umbrella coz it was slightly overcast when I left home. Then it bucketed down.

Does anyone have any idea how heavy wet denim is? When I cast my mind back to my Bronze Medallion we had to jump in the water with our clothes on and not drown. That’s how I felt lugging the shopping home.

I didn’t photograph my first outfit. By the time I got home the storm drain out the front had completely clogged so  I had to do a drain rescue to stop the street flooding, which I did in my undies with a very elegant khaki green rain poncho thrown over the top. No photo.

So here I am posed with my first outfit, now wet, and my second cosy, dry, on-the-couch-for-the-rest-of-the-day outfit…

Clothes too wet to bring into house

Clothes too wet to bring into house

Let me just say my first outfit was stylin’. I realise my current outfit isn’t.

Top: My first to was the MSK denim vest. The one I am wearing now is the Wrangler loaner

Bottom: The jeans seen hanging above are my Amcos. Such soft, lovely aged denim. Now I am wearing the faux denim trakkie daks

Accessory: In my first outfit i wore my Glaour Girl denim cap, now drenched. In the current outfit I am wearing denim birkies
