Day 146: Tuesday 22 September

September 22, 2009

Last night I dreamt about Elvis…

While that is a Gillian Welch song lyric  it’s also the truth. Yesterday I finished reading Careless Love by Peter Guralnick. How depressing. Poor Elvis pilled himself to death surrounded by people yet lonely, in a state of depression  and constipated. Apparently when you are famous doctors can’t say no to you. So just like Michael Jackson,  Elvis had many willing suppliers of a range of uppers, downers, anti-depressants, laxatives and pain killers. And like Michael jackson Elvis semed very very sad. American Trilogy? More like American Tragedy.

Here’s Elvis in his last concert, six weeks before he died on the toilet,  singing/ straining Unchained Melody…

Anyway. Moving right along to today’s stellar outfit…

Bottom: Denim Company ankle freezers, turned up to make that seem intentional

Accessory 1: Denim tie belt

Accessory 2: Denim shoulder bag

Accessory 3: Denim Birkenstocks

Day 105: Wednesday 12 August

August 12, 2009

Yesterday’s true blue through and through Dragstar combo was quite well received.

However I got the feeling from those around me that people thought I was wearing fancy dress.

Let me say emphatically NO!!! I was not playing dress ups, but playing for very high fashion stakes. Sometimes you have to take risks, and be ready to hear the critics. Armour yourself against the barbs, the arrows, the tongue lashings. So today I am flying under the radar, in a ‘costume’ that is all but invisible. I can guarantee I will not be noticed on the streets of Sydney in this take on double denim.

I puzzle over my handy work

Top: One of my favs, Joes Jeans jacket, so fitted it nearly hurts

Bottom: Industrie jeans, so fitted there’s enough muffin for everyone

Accessory 1: Denim hat gifted at the beginning of YoD (Year of Denim)

Accessory 2: Denim  shoulder bag, no label, all style

Day 87: Saturday 25 July

July 25, 2009

Today is the final day of the exhibition I have been in at Mori gallery, 168 Day Street, Sydney.

To mark the end of the show we are also holding an arts n’ crafts market down there  from 2-6pm this afternoon. If you have stuff you make to sell just turn up with something to put your bits on. There might be some free booze on offer too.

MudMArket

If you can’t make it down there to see what I’m wearing in the flesh, here’s my outfit for the day…

A little bit cuntry, a little bit WTF

A little bit cuntry, a little bit WTF

Top 1: Dragstar super sweet denim vest. Actually, I have changed out of this vest coz it’s jst so friggin’ snug, and I’m wearing the other Dragstar vest with the distressed edges, but I’m too slack to update the pic.

Top 2: Fletcher Jeans jacket thrown casually over my shoulder just in case the weather gets nippy later on

Bottom: They haven’t seen much action lately, my superb example of a 1970’s flare Landlubber jeans

Accessory 1: dark grey denim cap, I thought I’d break up the mid blue denim look

Accessory 2: Dark blue denim bag with fluoro decals

Come out and look for me. I’ll be the only person wearing top to toe mid blue denim in Chinatown today. Guaranteed.

Day 83: Tuesday 21 July

July 21, 2009

Gosh, I’m so old. The Year of Denim is now into it’s 83rd day, without a single day unblogged. What do I get for this thankless task? I get nasty comments about my beach hat! Here I am doing a great public service, bringing all that denim to light, digging through the denim archives to reveal denim’s hidden depths, exploiting my dog’s itchy arse, keeping the home fires irritated with my denim dementia, filling up the house with denim donations, handbags and, apparently, very unflattering hats.

I am quite willing to put that denim beach hat back into the op-shop cycle, but not until I find a replacement. In fact, I am going to take a poll….

Anyway. Here’s the first of today’s two outfits…

I love my denim, especially when the sun shines

Top: Fletcher Jeans denim jacket, well loved and a keeper

Bottom: Denim donation from Steph (Thank you very much) “Love Your Denim” holey flares

Accessory: Another denim donation from the  House of Viv, black denim cap with studding

This outfit was worn to walk the dog and have a coffee at the local caf’. Now I am working in the garden so it’s into work clothes for the next few hours…

Top: Last seen covered in clay, Jag jeans light denim shirt, yuck

Bottom: Urban Supplies gigantic jeans

Accessory: Now the beach hat has been banned I am forced to wear, against my better judgement, my denim visor. If it gets nasty sweat stains, it’s on your head, PN!

Day 78: Thursday 16 July

July 16, 2009

It’s the day after The Good, The Bad, The Muddy and I’m feeling quite happy, tired and relieved. My voice is feeling somewhat strained after a post exhibition & dinner karaoke session down in the dungeon that is Echo Point. My sage advice today is that everyone should get a look at the most amazing and incredible, spectacular and intriguing ceramic exhibition you will never see.

Anyways, back to the denim…

Which is bigger? The bags under my eyes or the bag in my hand

How many bags are in this picture and which is the biggest? The bags under my eyes or the bag in my hand

Top 1: Classic Levi’s jacket

Top 2: In and effort to keep warm I’m layering my denims with the addition of the MSK denim vest (Made in ‘Straya)

Bottom: Industrie jeans, very snug around the top of the thighs, don’t ask me why

Accessory: Today’s accessory was given to me very sweetly by an old acquaintance, HMc, and it’s all about the labels, fcuk denim bag. She also included a few choccies. What a sweetheart

Day 77: Wednesday 15 July

July 15, 2009

The day has finally arrived for The Good, The Bad, The Muddy. And of course I still have a few things to do. I have to make myself pretty for the big night of nights. I have to plan my night time outfit. And I have to make some dog poo out of clay. So all in all a busy schedule ahead of me.

In other exciting denim news I got back from my jaunt up the country to find a large parcel full of denim on my doorstep. Yes! Another unsolicited donation from a complete stranger! It was a mixed bag of horrifying acid wash, elastic waisted “jeans” (if you could call them that), a denim shirt dress and most spectacular of all…. a gorgeous denim bomber jacket! Which I HAD to wear straight away. Thanks Sophie. You are a Southern Highlands fashion legend.

Top: How incredible is this denim bomber jacket with red & blue elastic trim? Even the label is cool: South Seas Bubble Co Ltd! It’s a snug fit, but I don’t care

Bottom: Ben Sherman jeans, oft worn here

Accessory: Dark denim cap with re utpopia badge to match red trim on ace bomber jacket

I don’t think you have had a good look at that jacket, so here it is in technicolor…

Morning sun + denim = cool

Oh and it’s the final State of Origin fo 2009 tonight. But who cares? Come to my opening instead of watching the tele.

Evening attire:

Here’s what I’m in tonight. Don’t ask what’s on the plate, just come and see. And go the Blues, I s’pose…

Are you being served?

Bottom: So you think you can dance style metallic stretch denim, no really

Accessory: Nothing special denim shoulder bag, coz I need to carry a bunch of stuff
