Day 357: Tuesday 20 April

April 20, 2010

Today is a significant date. There are only 10 days remaining in the Year of Denim. TEN DAYS!!!!

I need to be making the most of these last days. Wearing my most loved denims, or most hated. Because after next Friday I need never wear stone-wash jeggings, jackets or over-alls ever again. I can stop being concerned with my appearance as I won’t have to take a picture of me and blog it.

Although I could still if I wanted to. Do I want to? I don’t know.

A pensive pose as the Year of Denim grinds to a halt

Top: Knockout stretch denim suit style jacket. It’s too small!

Bottom: They were here decades before the Year of Denim and they’ll be here decades after, Landlubber flares from America, from the 1970s

Accessory: Little denim hand bag. Tiny

Day 285: Monday 8 February

February 8, 2010

Updating three blogs in one day is both tedious AND boring.

But the blog must go on…

So I woke up this morning after recovering from a complete and utter painful Satyricon style gorge your-self-sick eat-fest day.

Culburra was still overcast and grey but not quite as overcast and grey as the past few days. Unfortunately the surf had vanished up at Penguin Head but was still quite forcefully dumping on the beach, where we went for a swim and got some bonus exfoliating with all the weed in the water.

Then we force fed ourselves again, before packing up and heading back to Sydney.

We stopped at Shoalhaven Heads and I got Her Royal Highness to take the blog photo. Here it is. Don’t worry about the deja-vu. This is almost exactly the same as yesterday’s outfit. New undies, new/old t-shirt…

Me on Seven Mile Beach. Thanks HRH for the photo

Top: Yes, it IS the Supre vest AGAIN

Bottom: YES, it is the Gap jeans again

Accessory: YES, my denim wallet is in my back pocket

Then we got back in the car and drove to the other end of the beach, Geroa, to have coffee and hot chocolate. And then we just tootled back along the highway to Sydney.

After dropping the girls home I too went home, showered, changed, unpacked the esky, took  another blog photo and left for work.

Here’s what I’m wearing as I write this blog tonight when I should be doing stuff for a very important media organisation… Don’t tell anyone…

Four eyed shot Action shot of me climbing into fresh denim

Top: White denim jacket, freshly laundered

Bottom: Levi’s flares, quite clean I beleive

Accessory: Denim shoulder bag containing denim wallet and diary

Day 275: Friday 29 January

January 29, 2010

Gee it’s easy to spend money if you try.

I have decided that the Year of Denim deserves better documentation and have purchased a new bigger, brighter, heavier, larger, more expensive, digital camera.

Of course the battery has no charge so I can’t actually break USE it today. But stay tuned for a noticeable improvement in image quality. But then again, this is a web page so there will probably be no difference at all.

The blog entries will stay as low brow as normal, so no need to worry about whether you will need a dicyionary book to check words with in order to read YoD.

Today’s look harks back to the good old days of peak denim wearing (in my mind), of the 1970s. Back when everyone rocked the double denim because let’s face it it’s a rockin’ good look!

Marvin Gaye, very good looking in double denim

And it wasn’t just cool good looking black folk who could give the double denim both street and fashion cred. Check out these celebrity whities and tell me how awe inspiring their denim outfits are…

The legendary Frank Sinatra blasting fashion outta sight in a pale denim suit as Australia's own Olivia Newton John struts in a patchwork denim ensemble

While I have aimed high today, somehow I don’t know that I am quite as significant culturally as those denim celebrities. Maybe once I have attained the one year landmark of constant denim wearing I too might have my own Wikipedia entry…

Does my _ _ _ _ _ _ look big in this camera? Taxi gives a rat's arse

Top: Once again in a Dragstar vest. That label is getting a heavy workout this week

Bottom: Ahhh, old favs, Landlubber vintage denim high waisted flares. Lovely if only the waist wouldn’t roll down

Accessory: Glamour Girl denim cap. I’m pretty certain it’s a 1970s original all the way from Japan

Day 226: Friday 11 December

December 11, 2009

At last! My Christmas spectacular is complete. Almost.

I still have a 10m strip of blue rope light to position artfully and I have to ‘install’ my crocheted nativity scene somewhere.

This year I have incorporated something very special. And it’s all courtesy of a great suggestion from Fatty Boomsticks in Tokyo.

Kanga + jeans + rope light = art

Is that a giant pair of rope light jeans I hear the world ask. Why yes, I respond, it is. They are a little abstract but I believe on the level of a pictograph you’ll be able to figure it out.

On to today’s gurn and get-up.

Sunshiney gurn and everybody's laughing

Top: Not worn much lately, Joe’s Jeans jacket

Bottom: Vintage denim, Landlubber flares. Aaaahhhh lovely

Accessory: Nameless, brandless denim shoulder bag. Much loved

Gurn: Low key lip gurn

Here it is up close and horrible

Sunshine on my gurn makes me happy

Day 210: Wednesday 25 November

November 25, 2009

I’m up and that’s a good thing. The sun is peeking out and I think I will ride my bike and wear my denim helmet today. Of course I have forgotten to take a photo of me in the helmet. If you have can’t remember how good it looks check this out

Otherwise I am wearing this…

Blue framed by green should always be seen

Top: Ladakh striped denim jacket, light weight, chic, now if now is yesterday

Bottom: Not worn in ages Levi’s flares. Gunna have to roll them up or tuck them into my socks for the bike ride

Accessory 1: Denim shoulder bag, much used, much loved

Accessory 2: Denim gym boots. Cheap version of the rockin’ Levi’s denim shoes currently around and that I am too cheap to pay full price for

While I am on the subject of denim bags, I haven’t bought a new denim bag in months. Surely I cannot already own every type of denim bag?

I know this cannot be true because of a discussion I had with a Vietnamese check-out chick.

She was admiring the denim bag I was sporting and she told me in Vietnam denim bags made out of an old pair of jeans are very popular right now.

This is an item I need. I might even have to make it myself.

Lookout Mum, I’m coming over with some new denim sewing ideas!

Day 166: Monday 12 October 2009

October 12, 2009

I’m up early. So early I have seen the sun rise. That’s too early. Way too early. But when you are a worker that’s what you have to do, obey the shift roster like a drone. At least I don’t have a bundy clock, although my first job after school, in a factory, involved the use of a bundy clock, but only for the factory. The people in the office didn’t use it.

Enough reminiscing about the olden days. Yesterday I forgot to mention the fashion care package I received from  the YOD Southern Highlands fashion adviser. That’ right, she sent me some denim! And what an item! It’s a Jag maxi skirt, in need of a good wash. Being a little stumpy I’m also worried the maxi length might be too maxi.

Me, denim, the backyard, the sun rise

Me, denim, the backyard, the sun rise

Top: Lee distressed edged denim shirt, barely does up

Bottom: The Beautiful & the Damned pale blue denim flares, too big

Accessory 1: Denim bag with red piping

Accessory 2: Denim gym boots. I must say I am seriously considering buying those Levis gym boots made from old jeans. These cheapies are fine, but the Levis are on a different level of chicness

Day 159: Monday 5 October

October 5, 2009

I’ve eaten breakfast. For the first time in days. Hurrah!

Still got some bile issues, and let’s wait and see how the food settles.

Off to work now…
